Travel Guide to Cape May, NJ

Travel Guide to Cape May, NJ

I wanted to put together this quick travel guide to Cape May, NJ! I love to travel and share my experiences with you! You never know when you might find yourself in Cape May or uncover new places to visit! the past several years my family and I have been traveling to Cape May for our Summer Family Vacation. We have seen the transformation over the years from a small shore town that not too many frequented to (I mean it is Exit 0!) to a bustling town with more and more options to see and do!

Obviously, let's start with the food! So many AH-mazing places to eat from casual dining to upscale and everything in between. Seriously there is something here for everyone! Bonus is that most places are BYOB! One of our faves is Beach Plum Farm. This is a working farm that you can tour and see just where your food is coming from (they also supply most restaurants in town with their produce and meats!) Breakfast is great with their fresh hatched eggs from the farm, quinoa bowls or fresh baked goods.

Stick around for lunch and on Sunday's they host an awesome BBQ! Check out their farm to table dinners they offer, definitely a treat! Bring home their farm-fresh goodies from the market and in case you don't want to leave, you can stay on the farm in their beautifully decorated cottages!

Salmon at Iccara's
Fresh Watermelon & Feta at Louisa's

Other great places to eat are Louisa's, Georges PlaceIccara Italian Bistro, Blue Pig Tavern,  Ebbitt Room, Panico's Bistro and Sea Salt were the ones we visited on our latest trip.

Here is our son Nick, hanging out with the chickens at BPF!
Since it is a shore town, yes we hit the beach every day! There is something special about the beaches in Cape May. The sand is so much whiter and smoother than just a few exits away from the other beaches. You can see the dolphins swimming along the shoreline too! If you stay at any of the Cape May Resort properties (Virginia, Congress Hall) you have full beach service meaning leave those chairs, towels, and umbrellas behind! They have you covered! Also, food and drink beachside service! (no alcoholic beverages or smoking allowed!) There are also beach service companies you can reach out to that will provide the same. So no worries, you can still leave the beach luggage behind!

Head over to the marina or the Nature Center and enjoy paddleboarding, kayaking, and other fun water sports! Bonus, the Nature Center also has day camps for kids and other fun activities during the day for the nature lover!

Congress Hall is such a fun place to visit! They always have something going on for everyone. Movies on the lawn, carnival night, and an outside bar for the adults enjoy to themselves too! If you are lucky, you might catch a wedding going on! Inside you have options to hang at the new redecorated The Brown Room for live music and specialty cocktails, The Boiler Room for brick oven pizza or catch a massage or spa service during the day at their relaxing spa.

Another great draw to Cape May is that you can actually ride a bike everywhere and everyone does! There are multiple bike rental shops and we make sure to get in and get ours! There is nothing that screams vacation than bike riding in the early morning for fresh coffee and breakfast, catching the sunrise, taking a yoga class, biking to the beach or just exploring the town on your own.

Some fun places to bike to are Sunset Beach, The Lighthouse (yes you can climb it), nature center, Willow Creek Winery, Beach Plum Farm and just around this historic town to find other hidden gems! There are bike tours (check out Curious Cape May) Plus there are a few wineries you can visit if wine is your thing like us!

Biking to Cape May Yoga!
The past 2 years we also rented a golf cart to get around town! We are starting to see these a lot more and they just looked like fun plus we can bring our dog, Rocco along for the ride. They are street safe and treated just like a car! Such a fun beachy thing to do!

It's safe to say Cape May is our happy place that we get to share with our family year after year. Don't be fooled and think this is just a Summer destination! Cape May has become a year-round town with many holiday events and activities for everyone to enjoy. Christmas alone is a spectacular event with tours of the old Victorians decorated beautifully! In November, I am heading back for a yoga retreat at Cape May Yoga. And in case you need another reason to visit, check out my other blog post from the retreat company I work with when we got to stay for the night at the Beach Plum farm cottages!

Consider this just a small glimpse into this historic beach town. There is so much more to see and do! If you have your own fave locations in Cape May please share with me below! Until next time Cape May.....
